Steinbrenner III Sport Leadership Award, named for the late owner of the New York Yankees, is presented each year to a significant contributor to the Olympic and Paralympic movements. Morris previously served as executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme, president of Lilly Endowment Inc. and the old IWC Resources Corp. He also spent time as treasurer and audit and ethics committee chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee and was a vice chairman and trustee of the U.S. Olympic Foundation. The endowment says the award "is presented annually to honor outstanding members of the Olympic and Paralympic family who have contributed to sport through management, sport organization endeavors or the enhancement of competitive opportunities, and who have displayed qualities of leadership, ethical conduct and dedicated responsibility during a longstanding commitment to sport." The USOE is a nonprofit set up by the USOC with funds left over from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
