A spokesman for the grocery chain tells Inside INdiana Business Marsh has retained investment banking advisor Peter J. Solomon Co. to help find a buyer. The company says its 44 remaining locations employ nearly 2,800 workers, more than 1,000 of whom are full-time.
Early Tuesday morning, Inside INdiana Business reported 16 stores were in jeopardy of closing, in addition to the 18 stores that have either already closed or are set to close later this month. In a notice to the state, the chain said 1,464 jobs could be lost as a result of the most recent round of potential cuts.
The previous slate of closings could be complete by the end of the month. Marsh attributes the more recently-announced cuts to "a period of unexpected difficulties and increased competition resulting in poor sales performance."

Editor’s notes: A previous version of the sentence that reads "the latest round of potential store closings noted to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development include" incorrectly used the word "planned." A higher jobs figure in the story that was also initially reported on the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s Worker Adjustment And Retraining Notification Act site has been changed, as well.
