The Merrillville Town Council this week said residents overwhelmingly voted “Merrillville, The Heart of the Region” as the new slogan.
The process to find a new slogan began in October, and the town received more than 40 submissions, which were narrowed down to five finalists.
“The Heart of the Region” was submitted by resident Candi Colvin, who was recognized during the council’s meeting this week. Colvin’s submission received 242 of the approximately 350 votes.
“She did tell me earlier, she was like, ‘Well, I never did that before, and I was kind of skeptical about doing it.’ So I told her I greatly appreciate that she did because she’s making history with the town of Merrillville,” Town Council Vice President Rhonda Neal said during the meeting.
The council voted to approve the slogan, which Neal said would be added to various sites around Merrillville soon.
