Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the company recently opened its 141,000-square-foot delivery station in the AmeriPlex at the Crossroads business park.
Amazon invested more than $30 million in land, building and equipment for the facility.
When the company announced the project in March, it said the delivery station is designed to meet the needs of its electric delivery vehicles. Packages from Amazon fulfillment centers are sent to delivery stations for the last portion of the company’s order fulfillment process.
Amazon says it will open several similar stations across the state, including one in Valparaiso. In February, the company opened a delivery station in South Bend.
The Times reports the Merrillville facility will create 300 permanent jobs.
