The biosolids management company says it will invest $7 million to build and equip a 58,000-square-foot addition to its headquarters and create 25 jobs.
The company currently employs 60 people at the facility, which is located about 9 miles outside of Kokomo. The Howard County Council will next month consider a 10-year tax abatement for the project, according to the Kokomo Tribune.
"We do work all across the country, from Florida to Alaska, so we do a lot of work outside Howard County, Karson Merrell, controller for Merrell Bros., told the council this week. "But we’d like to continue to grow here in Howard County, which is our home county."
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Merrell Bros. up to $180,000 in conditional tax credits, which the company will not be eligible to claim until Hoosier workers are hired for the new positions.
Merrell Bros. was founded in 1982 and helps municipalities, industries and agricultural operations manage and recycle biosolids, according to the company’s website. The company has additional locations in Indiana, Florida, Missouri and Texas.
