Ryan Smiley, who currently leads the Porter County organization, will serve as president and chief executive officer of the merged organization.
Smiley also serves as interim president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana, a role he has held since October 2016. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana reports the merger of the two clubs will become official January 1.
"We are serving more kids today than at any time in our collective and storied histories," Smiley told the publication. "Ultimately, the merger will eliminate redundancies, improve efficiencies and allow us to direct more resources to our clubs and to the programs we offer to ensure our long term sustainability and relevance."
The combined organization is expected to serve more than 10,000 members each year. Smiley says the boards of directors for each organization is expected to vote on a new name for the combined club at a meeting Friday.
Smiley adds they are looking for a new corporate office that will create a more centralized location. The organizations are currently located in Merrillville and Valparaiso, respectively.
