Mercury Marine earns energy efficiency designation in Brownsburg

Mercury Marine announced this week that its global distribution center in Brownsburg has earned a key designation for energy efficiency.
The boat engine maker, headquartered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, has received LEED Silver certification for the 512,000-square-foot facility.
Mercury opened the distribution center in October 2022. The company said in a news release it took multiple steps to earn the certification, including producing renewable energy with a roof-mounted solar array, incorporating special roofing material for heat island reduction, and constructing the building using all LEED-certified building materials.
“We’re thrilled to have earned LEED Silver Certification for our global distribution center,” Merciry Marine President John Buelow said in written remarks. “This achievement is consistent with Mercury’s leadership in sustainability and I’m proud of our team’s commitment to our employees, customers, the Brownsburg community and the environment.”
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, Mercury said.
To earn the certification, the company also created a reduced parking footprint with designations for carpool and electric vehicles, took steps to reduce outdoor light pollution and indoor/outdoor water usage, and utilized energy performance compliant HVAC, lighting and appliances.
The Brownsburg distribution center handles a variety of products, including engine maintenance tools, lubricants, and service-related parts and accessories.
When the facility was first announced, Mercury said it would employ some 250 people.
