The Board of Directors of Quincy Media Inc., which is headquartered in Quincy, Illinois, has begun marketing the company to prospective buyers.
Quincy operates 36 TV stations in 16 broadcast markets, including WSJV-TV in Elkhart. It also owns two radio stations and several newspapers.
The company says the broadcast stations will be marketed as a group and the newspapers will be sold separately. The sales process will likely take several months.
“We think the timing is right for our shareholders,” said Ralph Oakley, president and chief executive officer of Quincy Media Inc. “At the end of the day, we decided this was the best thing to do for our shareholders, even though the company has been and continues to be very successful in terms of serving its markets, its leadership position within those markets and in continued excellent financial results.”
According to the company, QMI began as Quincy Newspapers Inc. in 1926 with the merger of the Quincy Herald and the Quincy Whig-Journal. Quincy Newspapers became Quincy Media in 2016.
