New York-based The Penetron Group, which was involved with the project, says the plant now features larger holding tanks and an improved wastewater process, including a headworks structure, grit chamber, and disinfection system. In addition, a new building was constructed to prepare the left over sludge from the treatment process before it goes to a landfill.
“With such dizzying growth comes more wastewater,” says Christopher Chen, director of The Penetron Group. “McCordsville’s wastewater treatment plant was already nearing full capacity three years ago. It was time to expand treatment capacity to keep up with development in the town.”
The town previously released a report that detailed its plans to double the capacity from 500,000 gallons per day to one million gallons per day.
Indianapolis-based Whitaker Engineering designed the project and Walsh Construction was the general contractor. Construction began in August 2020.
