Part of Marian’s Adult Programs, the degree is aimed at adult students nationwide and can be completed online or at one of two campus locations.
The university says the degree offers a combination of real world, career-preparation courses with a well-rounded liberal arts education. The degree program gives students who aren’t seeking a hands-on health care career an alternative path to degrees in public health or social work.
"While public health positions typically focus on regulatory, legislative, or environmental issues, HHS specialists use this knowledge to educate and serve others," the university said. "Careers in health and human services also go beyond the direct individual care of social workers. HHS professionals are leaders who often coordinate the delivery of health care, and focus on broader scale work within the community."
The university quoted the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, which says the median pay for medical and health service managers was $88,580 per year. Jobs in the area are expected to grow 21 percent between now and 2022, according to the handbook.
Marian is offering new online classes every five and eight weeks. Those living in central Indiana also have the option to attend some classroom-based courses.
