Manufacturer Looking to Grow in Posey County

A spokesperson for the nuclear power component manufacturer tells Inside INdiana Business plans call for a more than $80 million investment in building upgrades and new equipment over the next four years. The expansion could also create up to 67 jobs.
BWXT says it is preparing for anticipated increased production work over the next several years and the expansion would help meet that expectation. The Mount Vernon facility manufactures heavy components for naval nuclear reactors used in submarines and aircraft carriers. It also manufactures submarine missile tubes.
Chris Drummond, communications manager for BWXT, says the company is seeking financial support from Posey County, though specific numbers were not given. The company currently employs about 340 in Mount Vernon and about 6,250 throughout North America.
The BWXT website says the company is a leading supplier of nuclear components and fuel to the U.S. government, provides technical and management services to support the U.S. government in the operation of complex facilities and environmental remediation activities, and supplies precision manufactured components, services and fuel for the commercial nuclear power industry.
