Manchester University Names New Dean of Pharmacy Programs

As dean, Smith’s role will include overseeing both the Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Science in Pharmacogenomics programs, each based out of the MU Fort Wayne campus.
“I am overjoyed by the prospect of collaborating with our incredibly accomplished and industrious faculty to advance academic pharmacy and prepare the next generation of medication experts,” said Smith. "Personally, I am excited to build upon Manchester’s remarkable tradition of community service, particularly involving the care of vulnerable and underserved persons in Fort Wayne and the northeast Indiana region.”
Currently, Smith is serving a three-year appointment on the Food and Drug Administration’s Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee.
Smith, who joined Manchester in 2015, previously served as pharmacy associate dean of assessment and administration. During his time with the University, he worked with faculty, students and stakeholders in implementing the assessment plan for the school’s doctoral program, as well as teaching pharmacy law courses.
A resident of Fort Wayne, Smith earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and his Juris Doctor Degree and certificate in health law from St. Louis University School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Society for Pharmacy Law and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
Smith has served as an author, speaker and leader in such areas as pharmacy law, cultural competency, health disparities, bioethics and disability law.
“It is truly a great honor and privilege to be to be selected for this position. To date, it is the highlight of my career,” Smith said.
His appointment was effective May 1, 2017.
