Major expansion planned for UofL Hospital

When complete, the project will result in more than 360 beds, 20 operating rooms and a new, 24-bed observation unit.
UofL Health CEO Tom Miller says the new tower will reduce capacity restraints in increase access to the hospital’s specialized care, academic research and innovative treatments.
The health system says the new hires and their dependents will be eligible for free undergraduate tuition to the University of Louisville. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says the project will help train the next generation of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
“To develop our workforce, it’s important to make higher education more affordable,” Beshear said in written remarks. “That’s why UofL Health’s commitment to providing free tuition to employees and their families is such a critical step and one that’s deeply appreciated.”
UofL says the expansion will also include infrastructure to accommodate two additional floors for future growth. Construction is set to begin soon with the new tower opening in early 2024.
UofL Hospital admits more than 3,500 patients annually. In addition to the Louisville Hospital, UofL Health also has additional physician offices in Sellersburg, New Albany, and Madison, as well as a rehab facility in Jeffersonville.
