Longtime Bloomington City Leader to Retire

Subscribe NowCity of Bloomington Director of Housing and Neighborhood Development Doris Sims will retire at the end of January. She has served the city since 1979. Sims has also directed the city’s human resources department.
She has served two terms as director (1996-2003 and 2016-current) and has provided management oversight of the city’s residential rental inspection program, collaborated with community stakeholders in the development of affordable housing and ensured code compliance to promote neighborhood preservation.
Sims has also served two terms as human resources director from 1987-1995 and 2014-15.
Sims’ additional experience includes two years of service as regional director at the Indiana Department of Commerce under Governor Joe Kernan.
She holds bachelor of science and master in public administration degrees from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (now the O’Neill School).
