Logistics Company CEO Makes $3M Gift to IU

Subscribe NowThe chief executive officer of Chicago-based logistics provider GLP has made a $3 million donation to Indiana University. The gift from Ming Mei, a 1996 IU graduate, will be used to establish faculty chairs at the Kelley School of Business and the School of Global and International Studies at IU Bloomington.
IU says it will use $1.5 million from the gift to endow a tenured chair in Chinese economics and trade in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. The remainder of the funds will establish a tenured chair position in logistics, to be based in either the Department of Finance or Department of Operations and Decisions Technologies.
Kelley School Dean Idie Kesner says the new logistics chair will help students enrolled in supply chain management see the operational and financial aspects of the industry.
"Ming has been a valued member of our Global Dean’s Council, and this generous gift signifies his continued commitment to Kelley," Kesner said. "It also shows his vision. The field of logistics is growing at a rapid pace as boundaries in the global marketplace continue to fall, creating a more competitive market. A well-organized logistics infrastructure is critical, especially for emerging economies that can benefit from the advantages of globalization."
Ming Mei has served on the university’s Global Dean’s Council since it was established in 2016. IU President Michael McRobbie says Mei’s donation will help provide students with "an excellent understanding of the business principles and emerging industry trends necessary to succeed and a changing global economy."
