Lime Bikes and Scooters Departing South Bend
Lime is pulling its scooters and bikes from South Bend.

Subscribe NowCalifornia-based Lime is pulling its lime-colored bicycles and electric scooters from the city of South Bend, according to WNDU-TV. Lime bicycles first appeared in South Bend in 2017, followed by the addition of scooters in 2018.
While no specific reason was given for the departure, a spokesperson for South Bend Public Works said in a statement to WNDU, “The city is in the final stages of vetting a new vendor with an announcement coming by the end of the year."
According to the TV station, South Bend Common Council members are working on a proposed ordinance to place specific rules on future ride-sharing device companies in South Bend.
In a statement, a Lime spokesperson told WNDU it was hopeful it could partner again with the city in the future.
“We are grateful to South Bend residents for welcoming us and we are proud of the City of South Bend for being forward-thinking about micro-mobility,” said the company statement. "Every city is different and there is no one-size-fits-all transportation solution – vehicle selection and availability vary across each and are determined through several factors including weather, regulations, usage, infrastructure availability and other analyses.
The city said having Lime in the community for two years “cemented the notion” South Bend has a need for dockless bikes and scooters.
Lime still operates in Indianapolis and Bloomington.
