The organization says the funding will support programs to “prepare college students as the next generation of civic leaders.”
CEA, which was established nearly 30 years ago, is a partnership of Indiana’s public and private higher education institutions that aims to boost community-campus collaborations to foster student growth.
The organization says the two-year grant will also be used to encourage faculty and staff to engage the local community in their teaching and research.
CEA Executive Director Elijah Howe says the programs created through the organization will help campuses and communities rediscover their connection and address the most pressing concerns.
“This funding will allow us to provide Indiana institutions of higher education with the most effective ways to improve community engagement practices, conduct research in and with their local community, educate civic-minded students, and bring community need to the forefront of the institution’s work,” Howe said in written remarks.
The organization says the funding will begin immediately.
