The changes, which will begin in the fall, were developed by Kelley faculty members in collaboration with alumni of the program, IU said Monday.
“Health care in the U.S. needs to be more efficient, and we believe the path to efficiency is through MBA-educated physicians,” said Julie Manning Magid, vice dean of the Kelley School of Business Indianapolis. “With the Physician MBA, physicians emerge as leaders with the full skillset to transform individual institutions, the broad health care field and, most importantly, patient outcomes.”
Among the changes to the program, according to the university:
- In-person class sessions will be reduced to three days every three months to better accommodate physician schedules.
- Four major hands-on, in-person immersion experiences will be offered, including a five-day leadership residency and a capstone project focused on solving a health care challenge at the physician’s organization.
- A new block of courses will address the relationship among leadership, operations, marketing, finance and strategy. Other new and expanded courses will focus on crisis communication and media interviews.
- Access to an executive coach will be available.
The 21-month Kelley physician MBA program is in its 10th year.
