The Indiana Joint Replacement Institute is planning a $28 million, 35,000-square-foot facility at Innovation Mile, which is along 141st Street, between Olio and Prairie Baptist roads.
Plans call for the two-story building to include an ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms, a hip and knee orthopedic clinic with 20 to 24 exam rooms, 16 pre- and post-operative bays, facilities for physical therapy and X-rays, a research gait lab, and an education and research conference center.
The Indiana Joint Replacement Institute was founded by Dr. Michael Meneghini. The practice opened a location in August in Terre Haute with Union Health and plans to open another this month in Fort Wayne with Carmel-based Surgery Center Development Co. LLC. The flagship Noblesville location is expected to open in early 2025.
A company spokesperson told IBJ the Indiana Joint Replacement Institute has been “intentional from its inception with regard to a statewide strategy.”
“Terre Haute is a strategic location adjacent to the Illinois border and sits as a key city between Indianapolis and St. Louis along interstate 70,” said Jennifer Fry, president of J&J Fry Consulting. “Fort Wayne is likewise strategic in its proximity to southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio.”
In April, Innovation One LLC, a medical tech partnership between Certus Medical and Radiological Care Services, became the first company to commit to Innovation Mile.
Innovation One plans to build 90,000 square feet of new medical equipment manufacturing and flex space. The company expects to invest $12.6 million in the project.
The plan for Innovation Mile is to create shovel-ready sites near Interstate 69 for companies with a similar focus—such as medical technology, life science innovation and wholesale trade—that would benefit from shared amenities. City officials have said the district could leverage more than $500 million in private investment as it is developed over the next 10 to 15 years.
Auburn, Hills-based BorgWarner Inc. has an existing $28 million, 100,000-square-foot facility within the innovation district area at 13975 Borg Warner Dr.
