The expansion to the facility at the Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville lets Voestalpine add a production line for frame rails for several major global customers. All told, the expansion is expected to cost $78 million between construction and equipment costs.
The plant expansion will add around 100 new jobs.
Voestalpine makes roll formed metal that is used in a wide-range of industries from aerospace to construction and transportation. In a press release, Voestalpine CEO Kevin Dierking said the expansion lets the company think big.
“This next chapter of growth for RFC would not be possible without the support from state and local leaders. We look forward to expanding our business operations with this transformative project adding long-term infrastructure, employment opportunities and overall value to the Jeffersonville community for years to come,” Dierking said.
The expansion comes with multiple incentive packages from a variety of sources. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is giving the manufacturer up to $4 million in tax credits. Duke Energy is also giving incentives for the project.
“Voestalpine has operated in this region for years, and when a customer of ours chooses to expand here, it’s a win for Hoosiers,” said Duke Energy Indiana President Stan Pinegar in the release. “We are glad to work with them to help make this possible. This will bring both capital investment and jobs — both permanent and construction — to the community.”
In addition to Jeffersonville, Voestalpine RFC operates multiple facilities in Shelby County, Kentucky and one in Pennsylvania.
