The deal, which goes into effect March 1, brings IU Health’s total number of Indiana hospitals to 16.
The hospital, located in Portland, has been managed by IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie since 1998. IU Health says it will assume all assets and liabilities for the hospital once the agreement takes effect.
The Jay County Council and the Jay County Commissioners voted to approve the deal, which led to the signing of the agreement.
"I am very thankful for the community’s trust in the process," said David Hyatt, president of Jay County Hospital. "The team members and physicians of our hospital, coupled with the leaders from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and IU Health have been very transparent during this process and that will equate to a high level of healthcare for our community for years to come."
IU Health says work will take place over the next few months to ensure a seamless transition.
Last year, the health system announced it would take over operation of Frankfort Hospital, which took effect in June. IU Health also ended its affiliation with Goshen Health in 2016.
