The Indiana Uplands region is making its first READI 2.0 investment by committing $5 million toward the project.
The 90,000-square-foot Regional Wellness Center is planned for a 10-acre site near Jasper High School. The project will include a large fitness center, four full-court gymnasiums, an indoor aquatic center, indoor walking track, group exercise studios and community rooms, the IEDC said.
Earlier this year, the region received a $30 million READI 2.0 allocation, which is being administered by Bloomington-based Regional Opportunity Initiatives Inc., and CEO Tina Peterson said the investment in the wellness center reflects a commitment to enhancing quality of life in the region.
“This center will not only provide essential health facilities and promote well-being, but it will also help attract new residents and families who seek vibrant, community gathering spaces,” Peterson said in a news release. “This project will have a lasting impact, creating a stronger, healthier place to live and thrive for both current and future generations.”
Construction on the wellness center is expected to begin by the summer of 2025 and be complete in late 2027. It will be owned by the city of Jasper and operated by the Tri-County YMCA.
“Projects like the new Regional Wellness Center in Jasper are moving forward at record pace, revitalizing neighborhoods and creating new opportunities for current and future Hoosiers to access health and fitness amenities as well as community support, accelerating quality of life statewide,” Indiana Secretary of Commerce David Rosenberg said.
The Indiana Uplands READI region covers Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, and Owen counties.
