The power company last month submitted a plan to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to modernize its electric grid over a seven-year period.
The IURC has scheduled a public field hearing for Tuesday to allow for public comments about the project. The plan is called IPL revAMP and the utility says it would address the upgrade and replacement of old equipment and hardware.
Improvements to the IPL system include line and pole replacements, transformer improvements, and upgrades to substations. The company also plans to implement advanced metering infrastructure, or smart technology meters.
If the plan is approved by the IURC, customers would see an annual rate increase ranging between 0.8 and 1.3 percent starting in 2020, according to the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor.
Two public field hearings are scheduled, starting at 6:00 p.m.
- Sept 3: New Augusta Public Academy North Auditorium, 6450 Rodebaugh Rd.
- Sept. 10: University of Indianapolis, Schwitzer Student Center Hall A, 1400 E.
OUCC says the IURC is required by law to issue an order by February 19, 2020.
Meanwhile, IURC will also conduct a public field hearing on Sept. 9 to hear comments regarding Duke Energy’s proposed rate increase. In July, the utility filed a request to boost utility rates an average 15 percent. The company says the additional revenue is needed for upgrades and improvements.
