Waltz announced his retirement in March.
Ober is one of five IURC commissioners that hears cases and renders decisions in the public interest regarding utility practices, such as rate hikes.
Ober previously served in the Indiana House of Representatives representing northeast Indiana from 2012 to 2018. As a state legislator, Ober served on the House Ways and Means Committee.
“David is one of the most intellectually curious and thorough individuals I’ve ever come across in the public policy and rulemaking arena. Couple that with his firsthand knowledge of the General Assembly and experience with state fiscal matters and he is an ideal fit for this role,” said Indiana Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brinegar.
Governor Eric Holcomb appointed Ober to the IURC in April 2018. With Ober’s departure, the IURC Nominating Committee will convene to evaluate candidates and then submit the nominations of three individuals to the governor to fill the post.
Waltz retires in mid-July.
