Goldsmith was hired for the position in 2009. He has spent 35 years in higher education administration at various schools including Michigan State university, Western Illinois University and Kent State University.
He is a graduate of IU, earning his undergraduate and doctorate degrees from the Bloomington campus.
“To start and end my career at IU Bloomington has been incredibly special, and I thank all of my colleagues for making these years so enjoyable,” said Goldsmith.
IU says Goldsmith worked to enhance safety and well-being for students through programs including the student-led initiative Culture of Care. The Dean of Students office received several awards during his tenure including the Campus of Integrity Award from the International Center for Academic Integrity.
IU Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Dennis Groth will chair a search committee to find Goldsmith’s successor.
