The funding will support the development of digital gaming applications for K-12 classrooms.
Three organizations, including IU, received a two-year grant. The programs will help students "explore representative government and the challenges it faces" by engaging them with knowledge about Congress and civic participation.
The center’s "Engaging Congress" project involves game-based learning activities focusing on the tenets of representative government and its modern challenges. The app will use documents, photos, posters, political cartoons, audio and video from Library of Congress’ digital collection.
IU Vice President for Government Relations Mike Sample says "Indiana University and the Center on Representative Government are honored and pleased to receive this significant grant from the Library of Congress. We share the Library’s strong commitment to improving citizen understanding of our government through the use of primary documents. We are deeply grateful for its support and for the confidence in Indiana University that this grant represents."
