IU Athletics Sets ‘Historically Ambitious’ Goal

Subscribe NowIndiana University has announced an athletics fundraising campaign aimed at raising $170 million for scholarships and an ambitious slate of capital projects. The effort is part of the school’s $2.5 billion "For All: The Bicentennial Campaign for Indiana University" effort.
The school says the scholarship portion of the campaign will include general support as well as named or endowed scholarships which could be eligible for matching funds under certain conditions. The scholarships cover tuition, room and board, books and fees for student athletes.
The university says a successful campaign will also result in "transformative and differentiating facilities" to help students compete for Big Ten and national championships and "to be prepared to succeed in life as well." Planned projects include the previously-announced, $45 million Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Renovation, which is set for completion by the 2016-2017 basketball season, and the $5 million Mark Cuban Center for Sports and Media Technology. Other initiatives include a $50 million "South End Zone Excellence Academy" and football facility renovations at Memorial Stadium, a $15 million indoor arena for volleyball and wrestling, $11 million in golf course upgrades and the $6 million renovation of the Armstrong Stadium soccer facility. The school expects all of the projects to be complete by the Bicentennial year of 2019-2020.
Athletic Director Fred Glass says the campaign will "help establish this as a new Golden Age of Indiana University Athletics." The campaign’s steering committee includes Quinn Buckner, Kem Hawkins, Jeff Cohen, Cindy Simon Skjodt, Steve Henke, Ned Pfau, Larry Rink and Wayne Radford. Honorary co-chairs representing IU sports include Ashley Benson (volleyball), Derek Drouin (track and field), Antwaan Randle El (baseball, men’s basketball, football), Victor Oladipo (men’s basketball), Cody Zeller (Men’s basketball) and Trent Green (football).
