The university announced Tuesday that Clinkscales, who has served in the role since 2016, left to pursue other opportunities.
ISU said in a news release that Clinkscales’ departure was effective Dec. 31.
“Indiana State University thanks Sherard for his contributions and advancements to Sycamore Athletics,” President Deborah Curtis said. “Under his leadership, he has helped raise the standard among ISU’s Athletics programs.”
Before joining ISU, Clinkscales served as senior associate athletic director at North Carolina State University. He is also a former assistant director of championships at the NCAA in Indianapolis.
The university credits Clinkscales for “establishing a winning culture” in the athletics program and also securing Terre Haute as the host site for the NCAA Terre Haute Regional baseball tournament.
“I will forever be grateful for the many years I served our student athletes, coaches, and community as the Director of Athletics at Indiana State University, and I will miss all the hard-working, talented members of the Athletics Department,” Clinkscales said.
Indiana State did not provide any information on plans to find Clinkscales’ successor.
