In addition to the Aviation Section, ISP says special operations will be stationed at the airport as well.
The airport services both local and transient aircraft, jets, pistons and turbines. It hosts two flight schools, aircraft rental services and two aircraft maintenance facilities.
“A number of factors contributed to the decision to locate in Greenwood,” said Doug Carter, superintendent of the Indiana State Police. “Top of the list is this is an ideal location with nearly all the infrastructure in place to meet our operational needs to serve not only state police aviation needs, but the needs of our law enforcement partners across the state.”
Officials broke ground on the project in June 2019. Construction was completed this spring, and ISP recently finished moving personnel and its aviation fleet to the new location.
“Indy South Greenwood Airport continues its impressive growth and has become a significant driver of economic development in both Greenwood and Johnson County,” said Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers. “We are happy to offer the Indiana State Police a convenient location for such a critically important component of Hoosier law enforcement.”
