Ohio-based CareSource and Managed Health Services in Indianapolis have notified state officials they plan to provide coverage in Decatur, Jackson, Grant and Wayne counties starting next year. Following the June announcements that Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) and MDwise Marketplace would drop out of the federal exchange in Indiana, the aforementioned counties were in jeopardy of not having options available on the Obamacare marketplace.
MHS says its Ambetter coverage will be available in 17 additional Indiana counties next year. Chief Executive Officer Kevin O’Toole says "we are committed to partnering with the State and policymakers to collaborate on actions that stabilize the market and offer affordable coverage options for Hoosiers." It has had a presence in Indiana since 1995 and serves 340,000 Medicaid and Health Insurance Marketplace members.
Governor Eric Holcomb issued a statement saying "I commend CareSource and MHS for stepping forward to ensure that these four counties will have options for Hoosiers seeking a health insurance provider on the federal marketplace. This is a prime example demonstrating the way states like Indiana are better positioned than the federal government to solve problems and meet citizens’ health care needs."
