The competition’s goal was to encourage communities to present inspiring downtown revitalization projects. The efforts of the two communities netted each $5,000 grants from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to help with the projects.
La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership’s project was designed to improve infrastructure and inspire volunteerism. Their "Paint the Town" initiative will be a series of service projects to aesthetically improve the downtown area. Light poles will be painted, windows washed, pet waste stations will be installed and benches will be repaired and painted.
The Heart of Sullivan is several projects tied together to revamp downtown. Their work entails a new greenspace in the heart of downtown, to serve as a gateway and gathering spot. New amenities for the area will include new seating, giant checkers, hopscotch, cornhole boards, a Lego wall and handicap accessible tables. The new space will also be used to host events.
The 2020 Great Lakes Regional Main Street Conference will be held in Royal Oak, Michigan.
