"Continuous learning and reskilling are core components of Infosys’ DNA," said Chief Operating Officer UB Pravin, adding the company will use the facility on the former Indianapolis International Airport terminal site to train 10,000 new American hires. The tech giant has committed to about 3,000 new jobs in Indianapolis.
Construction on the first phase of the project is expected to wrap up in 2020. It includes the training center and a 250-person residential facility. When its complete, the campus will also include recreational facility, walkways and green spaces. When it first announced the project in April, Infosys said the footprint could eventually double in size and result in a $245 million total investment.
Earlier this year, the company grew its hiring plans in Indiana from 2,000 to 3,000 new jobs by the end of 2023. Infosys says it has already hired more than 300 workers toward that goal.
City leaders are also touting the importance of the project to Indianapolis’ development. Mayor Joe Hogsett says the campus has "transformative potential" for the city’s west side.
"Today is yet another chapter in the airport’s history of intelligent land use that builds a stronger community — and is precisely in line with feedback from residents and local businesses," said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez in a release. "This massive site will be restored to the local tax rolls, and be transformed into a valuable asset to the West Side that we hope will attract other like businesses to the area.”
