IndyGo says the funding will allow additional vehicles to be housed as its fleet continues to expand.
In addition, IndyGo says the new facility will provide increased maintenance and operations resources to service its larger fleet.
“The space will bring us closer to our goal of reaching a near-zero emissions fleet by allowing us to store additional electric vehicles for our upcoming bus rapid transit lines,” said IndyGo Chief Executive Officer Inez Evans.
The grant is part of a $1.6 billion federal fund to assist transit agencies, territories and states by investing in 150 bus fleets and facilities. IndyGo is one of only nine agencies throughout the country to receive more than $30 million from the program.
