King, who most recently served as CEO and executive director of the Lower Downtown District in Denver, succeeds Travis DiNicola, who stepped down from the nonprofit earlier this year.
An Indiana native, King is also a former chief operating officer and associate publisher of a major Denver magazine and was a founder and managing partner of a nonprofit that focused on helping people recover from the housing crisis.
"Ryan’s approach to leadership and his nonprofit management expertise make him uniquely qualified to ensure Indy Reads continues to deliver and expand on its literacy programs that serve this community," said Chris Glitzer, president of the Indy Reads Board of Directors. "The board and staff of Indy Reads are excited to begin this new chapter."
DiNicola announced in June he was leaving Indy Reads to pursue new career opportunities in Pennsylvania.
