The funding will support efforts to install taxiway lighting and rehabilitate a runway.
The grant is part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program. The Metropolitan Airport is one of six in the Indianapolis area owned and operated by the Indianapolis Airport Authority. The IAA estimates the runway and lighting projects will create 120 jobs.
Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN), who wrote a letter in support of the grant, says reliever facilities like the Metropolitan Airport "help support economic growth and stability," adding, "safe, reliable airports are essential for our local economy."
