Rise of the Rest is an initiative led by former AOL co-founder Steve Case and JD Vance, an author and tech sector investor. It will include a five-city tour through Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin and Case’s commitment to invest $100,000 into five different startups in communities visited along the way.
The initiative will hit its sixth round of cities in three years with stops in Harrisburg, Lancaster and York, Pennsylvania; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Indianapolis; Columbus, Ohio; and Green Bay Wisconsin.
Rise of the Rest is involves connecting local stakeholders and engaging in what Case’s Washington D.C.-based venture capital firm Revolution LLC describes as engaging in "thoughtful and spirited discussion to learn what makes each city unique and successful." The tour stops will focus on entrepreneurial resources, innovation-centered public policies and university programs and gathering the names of companies and community leaders engaged in building the ecosystem in each city.
More about the initiative will be available in the Monday afternoon Inside INdiana Business enewsletter and statewide radio reports.
