The $30 million project is set to add two miles to the trail and take nearly two years to complete.
The expansion will take place in two areas. One will connect New Jersey Street to Capitol Avenue, which the organization says will improve access to the area of downtown Indy that includes Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center.
The other part of the expansion will connect the trail from the Madam Walker Legacy Center on Indiana Avenue north to 10th Street, then west to the planned bridge that leads to the 16 Tech Innovation District.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for 10 a.m. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will be joined by Indianapolis Cultural Trail Inc. Executive Director Kären Haley and City-County Councilor Kristin Jones, among others for the event, which is open to the public.
