Indy, which is the home of the Horizon League, was chosen after a six-month selection process.
"This is an exciting time for the Horizon League as we have the opportunity to bring our championships to a new community that align with our mission, vision and core values," Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone said in a news release. "Indianapolis is a destination city located in the middle of our footprint and has a proven track record of success. We look forward to working with Indianapolis to produce a first-class and memorable experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans."
Garrett Klassy, ad-hoc committee chair for the council, says Indianapolis stood out because of its vision and commitment to the league’s student-athletes, coaches and fans. The league says events will take place in early March of each year.
"The city of Indianapolis and Indiana Farmers Coliseum have a proud tradition of hosting NCAA and various basketball events and the Horizon League Basketball Championship will bring tremendous excitement to our community," said Cindy Hoye, executive director at the Indiana State Fair Commission.
This year’s Horizon League semifinal and championship games will take place March 11-12 in Detroit.
