Dave Lawrence, who has been with the organization since 1999, is leaving to become CEO of the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in Florida.
Lawrence began his tenure at the council as a special projects director and was named vice president in 2005. He also previously served as director of marketing for the Indianapolis Opera and executive director of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.
"Dave’s departure from the Arts Council is a huge loss to the City of Indianapolis," said Ted Givens, chairman of the board for the Arts Council. "He has been instrumental in bringing national attention to the Arts Council’s many significant accomplishments and Dave’s national colleagues now recognize Indianapolis as a place where arts and cultural innovation is alive and well. The ripple effects of Dave’s leadership legacy will be felt by our community for decades to come."
The Arts Council says it has begun a transition plan which includes the formation of a committee to conduct a national search for Lawrence’s successor.
