Indy Airport Lands Record Grant Funding

Subscribe NowThe Indianapolis Airport Authority has received what it says is a record amount of federal and state grant funding. The nearly $20 million will support rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, as well as sustainability, safety and security initiatives at Indianapolis International Airport and its reliever airports.
The grants were awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Airport Development Fund program. The IAA says nearly $15 million of the grant funding will be used for runway and taxiway rehabilitations and improved airfield lighting at the Indianapolis International Airport.
"These grants are instrumental in maintaining our entire airport system as a public asset to the metropolitan region and enhancing the value those airports contribute to our airline partners and passengers, tenants at our general aviation airports, and organically creating jobs via necessary construction related to grant-funded projects," IAA Executive Director Mario Rodriguez said in a news release.
The total grant award breaks the previous record of $18 million set last year. The IAA says the grants are expected to create 330 direct and indirect jobs across its network of airports.
