The chassis of the Andretti Autosport No. 28 Honda Dallara DW-12, driven by 2014 Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, is going up for auction later this month in Arizona.
Auction house Gooding & Company will auction off the chassis in Scottsdale, Arizona January 29 and 30. It is estimated to sell for between $600,000 and $750,000. The chassis will not include the Honda engine, which is returned to the manufacturer once it is no longer being used.
Hunter-Reay used the chassis during his 2012 championship run. So far, he has won four races in the chassis, including the 2014 Indy 500. He also used it to finish third in the 2013 Indy 500.
The winning bidder, however, will not receive the chassis until 2018. Andretti Autosport is still using it in the Verizon IndyCar Series and will continue to race with it until the end of its useful life, which is expected to be at the end of the 2018 season. At that point, Andretti will restore the chassis to the configuration used in the 2014 Indy 500 and deliver it to the owner.
Winning the chassis also comes with extra perks. The buyer will receive two season-long credentials and team hospitality passes for every Verizon IndyCar Series race, including the Indianapolis 500, through the 2018 season.
