The university announced Thursday that Yamil Acevedo, who had been serving in an interim role, will serve as Wesley Seminary’s permanent executive vice president.
Acevedo follows Colleen Derr, who left IUW at the end of June to take a role as president of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.
University officials say Acevedo quickly built a rapport in his interim role and acted to address enrollment challenges at the seminary.
“He has done an excellent job closing the gap to ensure the Seminary achieves its enrollment goals,” IWU President Jon Kulaga said in a news release. “I appreciate his commitment to building stronger relationships between Wesley Seminary, Wesleyan churches, and Indiana Wesleyan University, as well as the larger Wesleyan evangelical theological family both domestically and internationally.”
Before stepping into his interim appointment, Acevedo served as the seminary’s director of theological programs in Spanish.
“Wesley Seminary is encircled by an exceptional team, each of whom, from their diverse spheres of influence and ministry, wholeheartedly dedicates themselves to its mission,” Acevedo said. “We eagerly anticipate what God has prepared for the seminary and its students.”
