Kacena is currently a professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Earlier this year, Kacena was recognized as an IU Indianapolis Chancellor’s Professor—the most distinguished faculty appointment awarded by the university.
The center for musculoskeletal health was started in 2017. It works on treatments and research to prevent and cure bone, muscle and cartilage disorders.
“The Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health is founded on the idea that collaboration can lead to impactful breakthroughs and accelerate discovery,” IU School of Medicine Dean Jay Hess said in a news release. “Dr. Kacena has shown a commitment to that approach throughout her distinguished career, and I can think of no one better to carry on the successful legacy of the center.”
Kacena first joined IU’s medical school in 2007 and has researched bone mass and healing in her time there.
“As a member of the Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health, I have seen first-hand the impact team science can have on not only research, but also educating the next generation of scientists,” Kacena said.
Kacena will start her new role in November.
