Indiana unemployment ticks down in January

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Monday the state added 10,500 private sector jobs over the previous month.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,845,300. The state primarily saw job gains in the construction; trade, transportation and utilities; and private educational and health services sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate fell two-tenths of a percent to 63%, which remains above the national rate, which stayed flat at 62.5%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,398,047, down more than 10,600 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 98,653 open job postings as of March 4, while 26,379 unemployment insurance claims were filed.
The state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate, which again held steady at 3.7%.
