Indiana unemployment stays flat for third straight month

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state added 3,300 private sector jobs over February.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,845,500. The state primarily saw job gains in the private educational and health services; professional and business services; trade, transportation and utilities; construction; leisure and hospitality; and financial activities sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate fell two-tenths of a percent to 62.6%, which remains above the national rate, which rose two-tenths of a percent to 62.7%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,380,807, down nearly 8,600 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 105,593 open job postings as of April 16, while 23,998 unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending March 30.
The state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate, which fell one-tenth of a percent to 3.8% in March.
