Subscribe NowThe Indiana Department of Education has unveiled the three finalists for the Indiana Teacher of the Year award. The winning teacher will be announced next month and represent Indiana at the national level.
The finalists were selected from a committee comprised of former Teacher of the Year winners, IDOE staff, educational organization leaders, business and community leaders, and representatives from higher education.
This year’s finalists include:
- Jason Beer – English teacher and Poetry Out Loud teacher at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne
- Joshua DeBeard – Social studies teacher and varsity football defensive coordinator at Lebanon High School
- Tara Cocanower – World history and AP U.S. history teacher at Bluffton High School
“This year’s top three Teacher of the Year finalists serve as incredible examples of the hard work and dedication students benefit from in classrooms throughout Indiana every day,” Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner said in written remarks. “Great teachers change lives, and we are thankful that these educators are leading the way in their communities to ensure our students have the knowledge and skills needed to enjoy lifelong success.”
