Archuleta comes to the Terre Haute campus after an 18-year tenure as head coach at the University of Southern Indiana.
Archuleta succeeds Mitch Hannahs, who stepped down earlier this month to become head coach at the University of South Florida.
During his tenure at USI, Archuleta led the Screaming Eagles to two NCAA Division II national championships and helped transition the program to NCAA Division I. He is the winningest coach in the history of the program with 571 victories.
Archuleta was also named the Division II ABCA National Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2014.
“Coach Archuleta is a championship-caliber coach and a seasoned professional with a proven track record of winning,” ISU President Mike Godard said in a news release. “He is the right fit for Indiana State University and to lead our baseball team, which has shown for years we can compete with the best in Division I athletics. With the recent hiring of a new Director of Athletics, Nathan Christensen, and now Coach Archuleta, I look forward to the future of Sycamore Athletics.”
Prior to joining USI, Archuleta spent five seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where he amassed a 148-124 record and two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.
In written remarks, Archuleta called his new appointment an honor.
“The rich history of Indiana State is something I am really looking forward to being a part of and I look forward to continuing the momentum that has been built at this great institution,” he said. “I also want to thank the University of Southern Indiana and the Evansville community for 18 great years. I feel I have left USI Baseball in a great place and wish them the best moving forward.”
Archuleta is the 30th baseball coach in ISU’s history.
