More than 91,000 poured into the fairgrounds that day, making it the highest-attended weekday in fair history. The fair also saw the second highest attended five-day period in fair history, which fair officials credit to favorable weather.
The circus-themed fair drew 860,131 over the 17-day run, which was a 5-percent drop from last year’s 906,732. The addition of a free, big-top circus is being credited with bringing in many fairgoers.
“The STEP RIGHT UP to the Greatest 17 Days of Summer theme provided a wonderful opportunity to highlight Indiana’s unique circus history and promote it to hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers,” says Cindy Hoye, executive director of the Indiana State Fair Commission. “Despite several hot and rainy days, we once again delivered an incredible fair experience that delighted our guests.”
The circus was offered three times a day and drew 80,000 attendees from August 3-19. The 2019 Indiana State Fair will be held August 2-18.
