The deal comes after the Sycamores won the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships before making their third NCAA tournament appearance in four years.
ISU won 45 games in the 2023 season, the most ever recorded during Hannahs’ tenure.
The team hosted its first NCAA Regional in Terre Haute earlier this month, won that regional and advanced to its first NCAA Super Regional.
Hannahs was named the MVC’s Dan Callahan Coach of the Year by his peers for the first time in his career.
“We are so proud of Coach Hannahs and this incredible group of student-athletes on their historic 2023 season,” ISU President Deborah Curtis said in a news release. “He truly cares about holding his players and our university to a high standard. We are thrilled Mitch is staying, and we look forward to next season and many more after.”
Hannahs, a 1989 graduate of ISU, has led the Sycamores for the last 10 years. He has 311 career wins, which is second all-time in ISU baseball history behind Bob Warn, who recorded 1,070 wins from 1976-2006 and for whom ISU’s baseball field is named.
“We are thankful that Mitch has chosen to extend his leadership of our storied program,” Athletic Director Sherard Clinkscales said. “Mitch is the foundation of the baseball team, and he has done a terrific job building a group that engages not only with our alumni and students, but across the Wabash Valley and beyond.”
