Nearly a quarter of all the U.S. government purchases made in the Great Lakes Region came from small businesses.
The Great Lakes Region includes Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Indiana’s $989 million in contracts is part of a national total of $163 billion in contracts to small businesses.
“The SBA has worked closely with the White House and our partner agencies to enact policy changes that level the playing field for all contracting entrepreneurs through a more equitable federal procurement system and buying strategy promised by the President,” SBA Great Lakes Regional Administrator Geri Aglipay said in a news release. “I’m proud of the hard work our small business advocates across the federal government and our SBA partner organizations have done to reach these results.”
The SBA spotlighted Camacho Equipment & Janitorial Supply Inc., a Hispanic-owned and Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business based in Greenfield, which employs 130 people across three states.
CEO Jesse Camacho participated in the SBA 8(a) Business Developmenet Program and used his certification to secure more than $10 million in federal contracts, in addition to $7.5 million private secotr, city and state contracts in 2022.
“Working with the SBA supported our company vision to experience national growth as the contractor of choice for customers wanting our services, while being a positive leader and influence for the local community and adhering to the highest quality standards of our industry,” Camacho said.
The SBA said the overall $163 billion investment is an $8.7 billion increase over the previous fiscal year.
